What is Diagnostic Imaging?

Diagnostic imaging encompasses a variety of techniques used to visualize the inside of the body for diagnostic purposes. Our centre offers a variety of imaging modalities, including:

Types of Diagnostic Imaging:

X-rays:

X-rays are a common imaging technique that uses low-dose radiation to create detailed images of the inside of your body. They are often used to diagnose fractures, infections, and abnormalities.

Ideal for capturing images of bones, joints, and the chest, X-rays are a quick and painless way to diagnose fractures, infections, and other conditions.

Ultrasound:

Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves to produce real-time images of the inside of your body. It is commonly used for examining the abdomen, pelvic organs, and developing fetuses during pregnancy.

Mammogram:

A mammogram is a specialized type of X-ray imaging used to screen for and detect breast cancer in its early stages. This test allows a radiologist to examine the breast tissue for any abnormalities, such as lumps, calcifications, or other signs that may indicate the presence of cancer.

Bone Density:

Bone density refers to the amount of mineral content, primarily calcium and phosphorus, present in bone tissue. It is a measure of bone strength and density, reflecting the bone’s ability to withstand stress and resist fractures.

A bone Density (Also referred to as a BMD or DXA) is a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses low-dose X-rays to measure bone mineral density (BMD) at specific sites in the body, most commonly the hip and spine.
